§ Sir J. Mellorasked the Postmaster-General whether, with a view to preventing the postal system being dislocated by a large volume of Christmas cards and the resultant delay of business and official correspondence, causing a check to the national war effort, he will consider suspending the printed paper rate during the week before and the week after Christmas?
§ Captain WaterhouseI would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer my right hon. Friend gave on 6th November last to a Question by the hon. Member for Stroud (Mr. Perkins). In view of what he then said my right hon. Friend cannot see his way to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion to suspend the printed paper rate as proposed. This rate is largely used by the business community for the transmission of trade documents, and its suspension during the Christmas pressure period would no doubt cause them real inconvenience.
