§ Mr. Daggarasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, since men serving in His Majesty's Navy are able to purchase cigarettes and/or tobacco at a reduced price, he will, by the remission of taxation, enable men in the other Services to enjoy a similar privilege?
§ Sir J. SimonThe privileges to which the hon. Member refers are of long standing and apply in peace as well as in war. They are confined to certain categories of naval personnel, namely, those serving in His Majesty's seagoing ships in commission. I regret that, for the reasons which I gave in the Debate yesterday, I could not contemplate extending these privileges to members of the Services serving at home.
