Mr. Duncanasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the burden of Colonial indebtedness referred to in the recent Statement of Policy on Colonial Development and Welfare, he proposes, in connection with the new plans for Colonial development, to take the opportunity to arrange for a review of the indebtedness of certain Colonial Governments to the United Kingdom Exchequer?

A review of debts due from Colonial Governments to the Exchequer has been in progress for some time, and it is proposed that Parliamentary sanction should be sought for the remission of a number of loan advances from United Kingdom funds to certain Colonial Administrations which we are satisfied are not now in a position to make repayment.
