§ Mr. Denvilleasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the fact that a large number of premises are being used in the London area at the present time for the conduct of bottle parties; that, despite the fact that large quantities of alcoholic liquor are consumed thereon, no licence or other corresponding duty is paid as would be the case with hotels or restaurants; whether he proposes to take any action in this matter; and can he provide statistics of the number of such establishments in the London area?

SimonI am aware that a certain number of premises in the London area are being used for the purpose described, and that licences for the sale of intoxicating liquor are not held in respect of them. The matter is receiving close attention, and proceedings are taken in any case where a breach of the law is established.
