§ Captain CrookshankI do not know of any general departmental rule fixing an age limit for temporary appointments. My hon. Friend will, however, appreciate that for certain posts the interests of efficiency may require an age limit; and that, as between candidates of otherwise equal qualifications the younger may be chosen as being better able physically to endure the strain of present exacting conditions.
