§ Mr. J. Morganasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that large numbers of ill-conditioned sheep are being sent to the markets because of a shortage of feeding-stuffs; and if such sheep are being accepted for human consumption by the graders?
402W
§ Mr. W. S. MorrisonI am aware that certain numbers of unfinished sheep are being marketed by farmers owing to shortage of fodder. Provided that the certifying authority at the collecting centre is satisfied that the local fodder situation is such that the sheep could not be kept on for further feeding they are purchased for slaughter. The animals, though lean, are nevertheless quite suitable for human consumption.
