§ Mr. A. Edwardsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that banks and other institutions are following the example of the Civil Service and refusing entry into their service of boys over 17 or 17½ years of age, he will take steps to change the Government policy in this matter?
§ Sir J. SimonAlthough, as the House is aware, it has been necessary to suspend ordinary recruitment to permanent posts in the Civil Service, it is not the case that boys of the age mentioned are prevented from obtaining temporary employment in Government Departments, subject to the rule that, other things being equal, preference is given to ex-Service men.
