HC Deb 04 March 1940 vol 358 c35W
Mr. Poole

asked the Minister of Pensions how much overtime stenographers in his department are required to work in any week before qualifying for overtime payment; and what is the practice adopted in the case of members of the staff who arrive a few minutes late for duty?

Sir W. Womersley

Established shorthand-typists employed in London are engaged for a 42-hour week, and must complete that number of hours' attendance before qualifying for overtime payment. Subject to a five minutes allowance which is not reckoned, officers arriving late for duty are expected to make up the time lost at the end of the day, unless the circumstances justify the unpunctuality being excused.
