HC Deb 04 March 1940 vol 358 c44W
Mr. Salt

asked the Minister of Food what arrangements have been made to ensure that the slaughtering centres recently established are adequately supervised by veterinary surgeons; what is the present constitution of the veterinary staff attached to his Department; and whether it is proposed to enlarge it at an early date in order to overcome deficiencies?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The arrangements made to ensure that the selected slaughterhouses are adequately supervised as regards meat inspection by competent officials were indicated in my reply to the hon. Member for St. Rollox (Mr. Leonard) on 21st February. There is at present one technical officer with veterinary qualifications attached to my Department to advise on matters concerned with health inspection of meat. The question of the enlargement of this staff is under active consideration.
