asked the Secretary for Mines the numbers employed, surface and underground, respectively, at collieries situate within the area of Rhondda Urban Council, on 31st July, 1939;and the latest available figures for May, 1940?

It is not in the public interest to publish the figures, but I am pleased to be able to state that there has been an appreciable improvement in the employment position in the Rhondda area since July, 1939.
