HC Deb 04 June 1940 vol 361 c777W
Sir W. Smiles

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the treating of our soldiers, sailors and airmen by strangers in public bars leads to conversations and information which may often be of great use to the enemy; and whether he will consider making such treating illegal, except in regular Service canteens?

Sir J. Anderson

As I have previously stated, I am watching the situation carefully, but on my present information I cannot find that there is a case for a prohibition of treating.
