HC Deb 30 July 1940 vol 363 cc1170-1W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the name of the deer control officer; his experience qualifying him for the post; his powers; the date, terms and emoluments of his appointment; the number and remuneration of his staff; and the quantity of venison disposed of by him with the place of disposal and total price obtained?

Mr. E. Brown

The deer control officer is Mr. H. Frank Wallace, a recognised authority on game hunting and the author of various publications on deer stalking. This officer has no executive powers, his duties being to advise on questions relating to the killing of deer and the disposal of venison and to assist agricultural executive committees to organise their efforts to minimise damage to agricultural interests by deer. Mr. Wallace was appointed in September, 1939. His duties are part-time only and he receives an honorarium of £100 per annum for his services. It has not been necessary to provide him with any staff, nor does he undertake the disposal of venison.
