Smithasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware of the growing number of forms that have to be signed for people by magistrates; and, as in many areas there is a restricted number of magistrates, can it be arranged that a trade union official, minister of religion, councillor, co-operative official, or an official of the British Legion be empowered to sign all forms?
§ Sir J. AndersonI have not heard previously of any difficulty in obtaining the signature of a magistrate where such a course is required. If the hon. Member will tell me what kind of form he has in mind and where the difficulty has arisen, I will look into the matter.
