Mr. Creech Jonesasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade whether, in view of the shortage of batteries for hand torches and the high accident rate to pedestrians in black-outs, 259W he will now consider arranging the production and distribution for sale of these articles?
Major Lloyd GeorgeI am not satisfied that any radical alteration in the existing methods of production and distribution of batteries for hand torches would result in an increase in supplies. The Board of Trade are continually in consultation with the manufacturers with a view to ensuring that everything possible is done to meet the abnormal demand.
