§ Mr. Hepworthasked the Attorney-General whether he will protect the public against attempts to charge excessive law costs by introducing legislation to secure that taxing masters of the High Court report to the Law Society for disciplinary action any solicitor's bill of costs that the court has reduced by 10 per cent. or more, and that a solicitor who has been reported 1914W three times will have his solicitor's certificate suspended for six months and cancelled when further cases are reported against the same firm of solicitors?
§ The Attorney-GeneralI cannot accept the suggestion made by my hon. Friend. I would, however, remind the hon. Member that the costs of the taxation of a solicitor's bill fall upon the solicitor if the bill is found, on taxation, to have been reduced by one-sixth, and this, together with the fact that a solicitor is liable to be brought before the Disciplinary Committee for excessive charges, would appear to provide sufficient protection.
