§ Mr. Saltasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the office hours of the collector of taxes in the City of London have been altered from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. till 3 p.m., and that this earlier hour of closing is causing inconvenience to taxpayers; and will he have the original hours of opening reinstated?
§ Captain CrookshankThe offices in question are in the jurisdiction of the Commissioners of Income Tax for the City of London. The hour of closing to the public was, I understand, advanced in conformity with earlier business and banking hours in the City and in order to facilitate the return of staff to their homes in the black-out. I am assured that the Commissioners are anxious to meet the public convenience, and if my hon. Friend will give me particulars of any complaint, I will gladly, with their assistance, look into it.
