HC Deb 21 February 1940 vol 357 cc1375-6W
Mr. Boothby

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has made inquiry into the causes of the present inadequate output of merchant ships and the relatively high volume of unemployment in the shipbuilding industry; and whether he is satisfied that the necessary steps are now being taken to utilise all available shipyards, with a view to achieving capacity production at the earliest possible moment?

Mr. Churchill

Inquiry is now being made into the requirements both of material and labour, to secure the maximum possible output of merchant ship construction, and I can assure my hon. Friend that all steps are being taken to achieve this end.
