asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that in many Scottish areas wheat and maize, which normally approximate 40 per cent. of poultry rations, have been unobtainable for weeks past, with the result that many poultry keepers are refraining from hatching chicks; and what steps he is prepared to take to meet the position?

If the hon. Member will let me have particulars of the cases to which he refers, I will have investigation made. I would remind him, however, that in view of the general shortage of purchased feeding-stuffs and the necessity of giving preference to cattle and sheep, the quantities available for pigs and poultry are much below normal
