HC Deb 21 February 1940 vol 357 c1363W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether it is intended to prepare any scheme whereby children of preschool age can, in the event of air raids, be evacuated?

Mr. Elliot

In the light of the experience gained, the Government do not propose to make further plans for the evacuation of young children with their mothers. The transfer and accommodation of groups of young children unaccompanied by their mothers is limited by the factors of suitable accommodation and skilled staff. Where, however, in the evacuation areas young children are without parental care and where room can be found for them in reception areas in existing residential nurseries or near to day nursery centres, arrangements will be made, so far as possible, to transfer them and to find foster parents for them
