Mr. W. Roberts

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that owing to the scarcity and high price of feeding-stuffs, together with the plentiful supply of imported eggs purchased by his Department, British poultry farmers are only obtaining prices for their eggs far below the cost of production; and whether he proposes to take any further steps to prevent the wholesale bankruptcy of British poultry farmers?

Both home-produced and imported eggs are in short supply at the present time owing to the recent cold weather. The prices of English eggs on the London market are double the average prices for the same date during the previous three years; the corresponding increase for Continental eggs is about 70 per cent
