HC Deb 21 February 1940 vol 357 cc1379-80W
Mr. Sloan

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware that bricks have been transported from England to Scotland, to complete work, from Accrington to Bishopton, from Middlesbrough and Manchester to Lanark, and from Peterborough to Wick, and will he have the matter investigated?

Mr. Ramsbotham

Two and a quarter million bricks, mainly special bricks for use in chemical building construction, have been sent from Accrington to the Royal Ordnance Factory at Bishopton. Twenty-four million general building bricks have, however, been obtained from Scottish brickworks. There are no large works under construction by my Department at Lanark or Wick, but I will see that inquiries are made into these cases if the hon. Member will inform me of the nature of the works.
