§ Miss HorsbrughAt 31st December, 1938—the latest date for which figures are available—there were 19,480,000 contributors (13,230,000 men and 6,250,000 women) to the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions Scheme, of whom 480,000 (330,000 men and 150,000 women) were special voluntary contributors under the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions (Voluntary Contributors) Act, 1937.
