Mr. Jenkins

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of ships waiting for drydock accommodation at the ports of Swansea, Barry, Cardiff, and Newport for each week during the months of September, October, November, and December of last year, and for each week of this month, and the time each ship has had to wait for accommodation?

In September and October there were no delays in effecting drydocking at the ports referred to by the hon. Member. In November several vessels had to wait for drydocking for periods up to four days, but on all but one repair work proceeded in wet berths.

The number of vessels awaiting drydocking in the South Wales area on the following dates in December and January were as follow:

7th December Nil
14th December 6
21st December 4
29th December 12
4th January 10
11th January 10
18th January 10
25th January 12

In all but five cases, repair work proceeded in wet berths.
