HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 cc64-5W
Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Postmaster-General, as representing the Lord President of the Council, when the report is expected of the special commission that is examining the silicosis problem in the mining industry; and whether the commission have been asked in their report to deal with the problem of those miners who have been totally disabled by reason of chest disease but have failed to obtain certificates from the medical boards that they are suffering from silicosis?

Major Tryon

With regard to the first part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave the hon. Member for Llanelly (Mr. J. Griffiths) on 16th January. As regards the second part of the Question, the occurrence of disabling pulmonary disease not coming within the accepted definition of silicosis has been one of the main subjects of the investigation.
