HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 c69W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether as the work of agricultural labour is of first-class national importance, regular skilled farmworkers of over five years' experience can be issued with a brassard, or other distinctive dress or badge, in view of the fact that numbers of the Women's Land Army are so identified; and whether he is aware that anything that enhances the prestige, and recognises the position of skilled male land workers, should be adopted without delay?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

While I fully agree with my hon. Friend as to the national importance of the work of skilled farm workers, I have come to the conclusion, after consulting the agricultural workers' unions, that the issue of distinguishing badges to agricultural workers is unnecessary for the purposes mentioned by my hon. Friend.
