HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 c50W
Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Health whether, under a scheme for the protection of practices, it is possible for any insured person to be provisionally accepted on the list of an insurance practitioner, or under what other authority is this done?

Mr. Elliot

The schemes for the protection of practices usually make provision for the temporary acceptance of all insured persons accepted by practitioners during the period of emergency, though the system of temporary acceptance is limited in some schemes to the patients of absentee practitioners. Where a scheme is on a voluntary basis, participating practitioners mutually agree to accept insured persons only as temporary patients during the period. Where a scheme is formally adopted the authority for it is derived from the National Health Insurance (Medical Benefit) Regulations.
