HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 c53W
Mr. Boyce

asked the Minister of Supply what steps are being taken to recover nickel from spent bullets on the rifle-ranges throughout the country?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

The normal procedure under which all butts are dug over at intervals is still in force. The bullets are recovered and sold to scrap merchants, who separate the lead cores from the nickel envelopes.
