HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 cc48-9W
Mr. Groves

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the precise number of the staff of the British Medical Association who are engaged upon, and the office accommodation used for, the work of the Scottish Central Medical War Committee; how many of such staff are engaged whole time on the work of the committee; what amounts are, and have been, paid out of public funds for expenses of the committee and remuneration of the staff; and what official audit is effected in respect of such outlay?

Mr. E. Brown

As regards the first two parts of the Question, the staff and office accommodation of the British Medical Association in Scotland are available for the purpose of the work of the Scottish Central Medical War Committee, and the extent to which these facilities are used varies with the needs of the committee. Payment out of public funds is made to the Scottish Central Medical War Committee in respect of travelling expenses of members attending meetings of the Central and Sub-Committees. For the period 22nd February, 1939, to 25th April, 1940, this amounted to £182 3s. 1d. This sum is subject to audit by the Comptroller and Auditor-General.
