HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 c55W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can give any information in connection with the death of two sisters evacuated from Dover and who were killed at a level crossing at Undy, near Newport, Monmouthshire, on their way to school on Monday, 8th July?

Sir J. Reith

The railway company inform me that the accident to which my hon. Friend refers occurred on 9th July when I very much regret to say that two children were killed by a train while using a public footpath crossing. A verdict of "Accidental death" was given at the inquest and I understand that the coroner was satisfied that the enginemen could not have done more to prevent the accident.
