§ Sir J. Lucasasked the Minister of Health whether he will arrange with the proper authorities that in necessitous cases some grant can be made for funeral expenses for civilians killed in air raids, since, at the present moment, the assistance boards have no power to give any help in this matter?
Mr. MacDonaldIf a civilian is killed in consequence of war operations, it is open to the relatives or friends to claim the body and arrange for burial. If they do not do so, the council of the county borough or county district will themselves arrange for interment and the cost will be borne by public funds and will not fall on the relatives or friends. I do not think that any modification such as is suggested in the Question is necessary.
