Mr. David Adamsasked the Minister of Health whether he will give the latest figures as to the numbers of maternity and child welfare clinics which are wholly, or in part, occupied for service purposes or commandeered for any other uses, with special reference to such clinics in Durham County and Tyneside?
§ Mr. ElliotAccording to the information at my disposal, 316 maternity and child welfare clinics in England and Wales are in use for civil defence purposes. This, of course, does not necessarily imply that they are not available for their normal use. In the area specially referred to in the Question, 10 clinics are in joint occupation for civil defence and maternity and child welfare, purposes. One clinic is used wholly as a first-aid post, and alternative premises have been found for the work of the clinic.
