HC Deb 27 September 1939 vol 351 cc1355-6W
Squadron-Leader Hulbert

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can now make any further statement in regard to the raising of His Majesty's Ship "Thetis"; what is the cost of these operations up to date; and what proportion of this cost is being borne by public funds?

Mr. Shakespeare

Work on the salvage of His Majesty's Ship "Thetis" has been held up during the last fortnight by adverse weather conditions. These conditions have now improved and the task of removing from the submarine the bodies of the dead is being continued. The cost of the operations to date is not at present available, but discussions are taking place with the underwriters concerning the apportionment.
