HC Deb 20 September 1939 vol 351 cc962-3W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister of Pensions what steps he is taking to deal with new claims for pensions?

Sir W. Womersley

All necessary instruments for the various new classes of pensions which Parliament has entrusted to my Department have been issued, or are on the point of issue, and their prompt administration is provided for by an organisation which is being expanded as required. All claims as they come in are dealt with as rapidly as possible. Indeed, I may say that the first pension in respect of the new war was awarded within five days of its outbreak to the widow of a merchant seaman.
