HC Deb 20 September 1939 vol 351 cc964-5W
Captain Plugge

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that various unpaid voluntary workers engaged on gas decontamination have, if they wish to serve, to buy their own outfit because there is none supplied to them; and whether, to ensure efficiency, he can see that they receive proper equipment?

Sir J. Anderson

My hon. and gallant Friend must, I think, have been misinformed. Members of public decontamination squads are eligible to receive free of charge equipment which is provided by the Government to local authorities, and this equipment has been issued to local authorities so far as supplies are available. In no case is a volunteer in any of the public air-raid precautions services required to buy any part of his equipment.
