HC Deb 13 September 1939 vol 351 c654W
Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Messrs. Peter Lind, contractors engaged in the reconstruction of Waterloo Bridge, refused to pay men for time lost owing to the air-raid warning given on the morning of 6th September; and, in view of the fact that this work has been declared to be of national importance, he will intervene with the contractors to secure payment for all time lost through such circumstances?

Mr. Assheton

I understand that the question of the conditions to be applied to the circumstances to which the hon. Member refers are under the consideration of the Civil Engineering Conciliation Board on which the employers and trade unions are represented. In the meantime the contractors have made a provisional arrangement pending a decision of the board.
