§ Mr. Jaggerasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether the rationing of sugar to manufacturing confectioners is expected seriously to curtail the supply and raise the price of the cheaper sweets to the public; and whether he can make any statement on the intentions of the Government in this respect?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative: increases of price are due not to rationing but to increased costs and taxation. As regards the second part of the question, I can assure the hon. Members that every endeavour will be made to meet, so far as practicable, the requirements of the confectionery trades.
