§ Sir E. GriggFrom the date of his appointment in October, 1937, to 30th June, 1939, the Chairman of the British Council received no pay. Since that date he has drawn salary from the funds of the Council at the rate of £3,000 per annum, having given up a position of an equivalent financial value in order to devote his whole time to the Council's work.
