§ Mr. A. Edwardsasked the Minister of Health whether, in the interest of public health, he will seek powers to prohibit the manufacture of all patent medicines not approved by his Department as beneficial to public health?
§ Mr. ElliotI would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on the 4th August by my right hon. and learned Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to a question put by my hon. and gallant Friend, the Member for Blackburn (Captain Elliston). As stated in that answer, it was the intention to appoint a committee to examine both the control and the taxation aspects of the proprietary medicines question, but in view of the outbreak of war the appointment of the committee has been postponed, and the question of legislation must remain in abeyance.
