Mr. David Adamsasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that since the outbreak of war vegetable drugs, essential oils and medicinal chemicals have doubled and even trebled in price, and that certain of these are being withheld altogether from the market; and whether, in view of war and civilian requirements, he proposes to control essential supplies of these vital commodities?
§ Mr. StanleyI find that there have been substantial increases in the price of a number of goods of this class. Inquiries are being actively pursued and discussions have been arranged with representatives of the Wholesale and Retail Drug Trades. I am not in a position to make any further statement at the moment.
