HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1980-1W
Mr. Logan

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can now furnish the fullest particulars regarding the salving operations in connection with the submarine "Thetis"?

Mr. Shakespeare:

Work on salvaging His Majesty's Ship "Thetis" progresses satisfactory in spite of difficult weather conditions. Sixty-five of the dead have now been removed from the submarine but it will probably be necessary to beach the vessel before the remaining bodies are removed. Preparations are now being made to enable compressed air to be pumped into the vessel so that it can be lightened and beached.
