asked the Secretary of State for War how letters for troops serving abroad, other than in France, but whose country of service is not known, should be addressed?

Correspondence for troops serving abroad, other than in France, but whose country of service is not known, should be addressed as follows:

  1. (1) Army or Air Force number (in the case of other ranks only).
  2. (2) Rank.
  3. (3) Name.
  4. 1427
  5. (4) Squadron, battery, company, or other section of the unit.
  6. (5) Army or Air Force unit (including, in the latter case, the letters "R.A.F.").
  7. (6) Full postal address of the depot or the peace headquarters of the unit.

Any such correspondence received by the depot or the peace headquarters of the unit would be re-directed to the addressees.
