HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 c1058W
Mr. De Chair

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that officers' lodging allowances are reduced by the omission of fuel and light allowances when the officer goes to the front, although his family's fuel and light requirements may not thereby be reduced; that the reduction in allowances amounts to as much as 17s. 6d. per week in the case of majors; and whether he will take steps to remove this penalty on active service?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I regret that I am not yet in a position to give a final reply. The matter is linked with other questions which are at present under review. I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
