HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 c1069W
Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Minister of Shipping what are the rates of freight paid, respectively, to British vessels on T. 99 time charters, and to neutral vessels on Baltime time charters; and what are the current rates of freight paid to British and neutral vessels, respectively, for similar voyages from Montreal to the United Kingdom?

Sir J. Gilmour

The rates of hire for British vessels which have been requisitioned, and are being run on the basis of the T.99 time charter, have not yet been fixed. A number of neutral vessels have recently been taken on time charter at about 12s. 6d. per deadweight ton per month. The controlled rate for British vessels for grain from Montreal or United States of America Atlantic ports to the United Kingdom is at present 4s. 6d. per quarter but is under review. From the United States of America Atlantic ports neutral vessels have been paid 11s. per quarter.
