HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 cc1069-70W
Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Shipping whether he is aware that up to a few days ago there was no boat drill on the Liverpool-Belfast steamships, nor were boat stations communicated to passengers; and whether this inactivity is continuing?

Sir J. Gilmour

I have ascertained that boat drills for the crew of the vessel referred to are held weekly in port and that, in each of the passenger cabins in the ship, notices are exhibited describing the nature of the signal which would be given in an emergency and the procedure which passengers should then follow. I am writing to the shipowners concerned asking them to draw the attention of all passengers to the terms of these notices.
