HC Deb 14 November 1939 vol 353 cc558-9W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will issue a list of the punishments now employed in the British Army on active service with an indication of the type of offence to which they are generally applied?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The maximum punishments that may be awarded for various offences on active service are laid down in Sections 4 to 47 of the Army Act. The punishment within those limits actually awarded is within the discretion of a court-martial or of an officer disposing summarily of a charge.
