Mr. Dunn

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can state the increase in exports of British house-coal resulting from the rationing of its domestic consumption; and what countries are in the habit of importing British coal of this type?

Mr. Lloyd

It is not in the national interest to disclose more information about our coal export trade than is published in the Trade and Navigation Returns. The principal countries to which house coal was exported in the first half of 1939 are Eire, Channel Islands, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, France and Newfoundland.
