HC Deb 14 November 1939 vol 353 c552W
Mr. Burke

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can make any statement regarding the Cotton Control Board and the plans that are proposed for safeguarding the interests of the Lancashire cotton industry especially with regard to export trade?

Mr. Stanley

Sir Percy Ashley, the Chairman of the Cotton Board, has been appointed Cotton Controller by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply. His functions, as Cotton Controller, are similar to those of the controllers of other raw materials appointed by the Minister of Supply.

Sir Percy Ashley will remain Chairman of the Cotton Board, which will continue to act within its present terms of reference. The question of giving wider powers to the Cotton Board is under consideration and a statement on this subject will be made as soon as possible.
