HC Deb 14 November 1939 vol 353 cc575-6W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Transport whether the Hartley-Wintney By-Pass on the London-Penzance trunk road, the Rest and be Thankful By-pass on the Inveraray-Arrochar road, and the by-pass on the Dalmally-Oban road are among the road improvement schemes which it has been decided to suspend?

Captain Wallace

No scheme for a bypass to Hartley-Wintney on the London-Penzance Trunk Road has been authorised, or is at present in contemplation.

The work on the Rest and be Thankful by-pass on the Inveraray-Arrocher road is proceeding for the present, but a report is being prepared on the practicability of closing down, with due regard to the state of the work, the expenditure involved and the labour position.

The reconstruction works on the Dalmally-Oban Trunk Road are in an advanced stage, and it has been decided that the most economical course will be to complete them with certain modifications of the original scheme. The diversion at Dalmally, for which I had given notice before the war of my intention to make an Order under Section 1 (3) of the Trunk Roads Act, will be deferred.
