HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 c425W
Captain Strickland

asked the Home Secretary what is the cause of the delay on the part of the local authorities in making payment for road-vehicles hired or purchased by them for war-defence purposes; whether he is aware of the grave hardship imposed on many road operators who have had to hire vehicles to carry on their business on rates considerably in excess of the payments made on account; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this hardship?

Sir J. Anderson

Local authorities have for some time past been authorised to make payments for vehicles used for these purposes. As regards the second part of the question, I have not received any representations to the effect indicated.
