HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 c449W
Mr. Ross Taylor

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in view of the fact that a number of motor works and garages well equipped for many types of engineering have a greatly decreased amount of civilian work, he will arrange that motor works and garages should be turned over to munitions production?

Colonel Llewellin

It is considered that these works and garages will be more suitable for repair work than for new production and it is intended to make use of some of them for the repair of vehicles returned from overseas; but it is not anticipated that any appreciable volume of this work will be available for some time.

In order that my right hon. Friend may be aware of the extent of the facilities that are available for this work, he has asked the Motor Associations to schedule capacity for him and this they have agreed to do.
